September 6 Terraces event features Russo & Noe and the Solstice Sisters
By Charlene Terrell

Come at 6:00 p.m. for a barbecue dinner with all the trimmings--Pork barbeque on a bun, cole slaw, baked beans, cookie, and a drink.! Catered by Williamson Brothers in Canton, part of the proceeds will benefit the Big Canoe Chapel Scouting Program. Tickets for the barbeque are $7.50 and may be purchased in advance or at the event.

Two great acts will perform at the Terraces amphitheater on Saturday, September 6, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. Don't miss this final evening of entertainment of the Terraces 2008 season starring Russo & Noe and the Solstice Sisters. Tickets are available between Chapel services, in the Chapel office or on the evening of the event. Adult tickets are $15.00; student tickets are $5.00 and those 6 and under may enter at no charge. You may picnic in the allowed areas prior to the concert but no food or drink is allowed in the seating area.

The Solstice Sisters

The Solstice Sisters are known for their lovely three-part harmonies and for their spontaneous and energetic live shows. Individually, they are Maggie Hunter, Susan Staley and Anna Durden. Together these three women wow their audiences, harmonizing old time country ballads, traditional folk songs and 40's styled swing. The sisters have been performing as a trio since 1994 and they have performed at many festivals in Northeast Georgia, sharing the stage with the likes of Doc Watson, Doyle Larson & Quicksilver, Ralph Stanley and his Clinch Mountain Boys and many more. They have become regulars at the Mountain Medicine and Music Show, a live radio show in Dahlonega, and they performed at WUGA's radio broadcast "Once in a Blue Moon" and "It's Friday." They were featured on the statewide public radio show "Georgia Gazette."

They have just released their new CD "The Rest of the Year" featuring David Blackmon playing fiddle and mandolin, Dick Daniels on stand-up bass and Tommy Jordan on claw-hammered banjo. The CD is a mix of 15 traditional, old time and bluegrass styled ballads and swing songs, including some original songs by the Sisters.

Russo & Noe

Gabe Russo and Jim Noe are professional singers and not an impersonation act, although comparisons are often made to the "Rat Pack" days of Las Vegas. Performing in tuxedos with the trademark Manhattan glass in hand, they really do take an audience back to those days. Just close your eyes and you could be at the Sands Hotel in 1962. They are easy and relaxed on stage, slightly ribald with their humor and possess excellent voices remarkably suited to the swinging Big Band Era.

In July and August of 2007, Russo and Noe were invited to the Highlands Playhouse in Highlands, North Carolina to co-star in the Frank Sinatra revue "My Way."

Gabe Russo -
Born in the fifties in Philadelphia, Gabe comes from a showbiz family. His aunt, Helen O'Connell, sang with the Dorseys and his father was a saloon crooner of renown from Baltimore to New York. As a boy, he received vocal instruction from Stoddard Smith and was a soloist in the St. Johns Cathedral Men's Choir. Gabe began singing, tuxedo and all, with his father and pianist Junie Price at age 8. They continued to occasionally perform together into the 1980's in northeast night clubs including The Café Continental, The Latin Casino, the Crescendo and more.

Russo has been an actor since 1973. He was in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and he played Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls, Jeff Douglas in Brigadoon, King Arthur in Camelot, Emile DeBeque in South Pacific, Oscar Madison (twice) in The Odd Couple and many other roles.

Jim Noe -
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Jim has been performing in the Atlanta area for over 20 years. He began studying voice and guitar in 1979. After graduating from college in 1984, he began studying at the Alliance Theater School.. He studied voice with Beverly Blouin and Sally Priester and received piano instruction from Jim Greer of The Atlanta Music Center.

Jim won the Post and Alley Award for outstanding achievement in choreography in West Side Story and the Boss Award for Best Male Chorus Member as Sid Phillips in The Neighborhood Playhouse production of Singing in the Rain. Jim spent 3 seasons with the Atlanta Lyric Company and 2 with The Atlanta Opera at The Fox Theater.

In 1998, Jim became one of the founding members of the Holly Theater Company in Dahlonega. He was last seen at the Holly in the role of Cole Porter in Red, Hot and Cole! Other theater credits include: Daddy Warbucks in Annie, Curly in Oklahoma, The Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors, Paul Brattier in Barefoot in the Park, Sir Lancelot in Camelot and Tommy Albright in Brigadoon, plus many more roles.

The Terraces

If you have not attended a concert at the Terraces before, the amphitheater is located just north of Big Canoe's main entrance off Steve Tate Highway, which is off Hwy. 53 at the Foothills shopping center. The entrance to the Terraces is the first driveway north of the main Big Canoe gate. There will be assistance in parking your vehicle. Car pooling is appreciated.
